The Brent Chair reimagines an Acapulco-style chair found discarded on the street, transforming it into a piece that explores identity, materiality, and cultural symbolism. Drawing on the visual language of the sex sling, the design references the aesthetics and materials of queer environments, particularly the use of leather.

The aluminium frame was repurposed and retained with visible marks and scratches, which are celebrated and echo the rawness and resilience embodied in queer spaces. These imperfections complement the concept of the sex sling and reinforce the chair’s connection to strength, endurance, and lived experience.

The seat was hand-sewn in leather, establishing a direct material and tactile link to the sling reference. Extending this language of support and suspension, hand-assembled chains constructed using chain mail techniques are draped from the frame. Referencing the functional chains used to hold a sex sling, they are recontextualised here as non-structural, operating as jewellery for the object. Their presence introduces a sense of weight, adornment, and excess, while also alluding to themes of restraint, connection, and erotic identity.
