Filipe Brás is a Portuguese-born designer/maker based in Naarm/Melbourne. With a background in film and currently undertaking furniture design studies at RMIT, his practice is shaped by a sensitivity to narrative, exploring the intersection of materiality, identity, and reuse.

He is drawn to found and industrial materials, and to how their histories, imperfections, and tactile qualities can be reinterpreted into new forms. Each project begins with a concept but evolves intuitively, guided by balance, tension, and the dialogue between structure and spontaneity. Through reuse and reinterpretation, he reveals the emotional and cultural layers embedded within materials.

Queer narratives and symbols often inform his work, shaping objects that speak to resilience, strength, and transformation.

Whether functional or sculptural, his pieces bridge refinement and rawness, precision and imperfection, creating designs that carry both story and substance.
